Kern County Fair

Several chapter members just finished up their first Kern County Fair which was held from September 21st to October 1st, 2006. Seventeen FFA students exhibited numerous projects including, market and breeding sheep, hogs and goats, as well as, chickens, pigmy goats, dairy cattle and even photography. Frontier FFA members walked away with some outstanding awards for their accomplishments. Brittney Barnett received Champion FFA showmanship in halter horse, Champion FFA showmanship in breeding sheep, 1st place pair of spring and yearling ewe lambs, and was second in the FFA Round Robin competition. Hannah Goehring placed 3rd in the cross/Suffolk market lamb class and placed in the top ten for showmanship. Nicole Keeter had 3rd with her market lambs, second with her Hampshire hog and made the cut for both lamb and hog showmanship. Samantha Church took 5th in Senior Showmanship with her pigmy goat, 2nd in the market Hampshire class, 6th in the Duroc market class and 5th in the Duroc barrow show. Mandy Downs placed 8th in Kern Bred and Fed market lamb class and 6th in goat showmanship. Amanda Rush received “best of Show” with her rooster and placed 4th in meat goats. Jacob Rutledge was 1st with his Duroc gilt and 3rd in showmanship. Shantelle Taylor was first in her market sheep class, made the cut in showmanship and took first place in Kern Bred and Fed. Gina Holms was in the top 18 with her Springer dairy heifer, exhibited the Supreme Champion gilt and was 3rd in senior showmanship. Lee Yantis received 1st and 2nd place in the Hampshire and Speckeled lamb classes, 2nd in Kern Bred and Fed, 1st place in Ladies Lead receiving the 100% Wool Award. Amanda Rudnick had the Reserve Champion ewe lamb,  2nd place with her spring ewe, Reserve Champion ram, 4th place in market lamb class and 1st and 2nd with her pygmy goats. Rachel Hicks had the reserve champion AOB lamb and placed 7th with her Hampshire lamb. Chelsea Morris received 1st in class with breeding ewe, 4th in breeding showmanship, 1st in market lamb class, 2nd in meat goat class and 3rd in meat goat showmanship. Leah Hicks had 3rd with her natural lamb and 4th in her Hampshire lamb class. Austin Roach placed 3rd in his market Hampshire Lamb Class.
